Winch Thimble - The Original Winch Safety Thimble

Safety Thimble – Winch Safety Thimble

Our Winch Thimble – The “Original” Winch Safety Thimble, since 2004. Designed to prevent the winch thimble from getting pulled into the fairlead. This is where most accidents happen during winch operation, often due to winch “run-on” from electric winches. Winching is an inherently dangerous activity. The Winch Safety Thimble is designed with several features to reduce the risk while using a self-recovery winch. Unlike hooks and standard steel tube thimbles, the flat base lands flat on the face of the fairlead to prevent pulling through the fairlead opening, and also prevents damage to rollers or the smooth radii of Hawse Fairleads  It is designed to work with Synthetic Winch Rope. Our Safety Thimble enables the user to make minimal safer connections when performing vehicle recovery operations. The Safety Thimble is also designed to allow the least number of connections due to the fact that a standard 3/4″ bow shackle “D-ring) will fit the Safety Thimble either by the pin or the body of the shackle.

The Safety Thimble comes in 2 different sizes depending on the size of the synthetic winch rope or application you are using:

  • Safety Thimble I : This is a smaller version for 3/16″ to 1/4″ synthetic ropes. These are perfect for ATV and UTV side by sides that use small winches. Designed to be used with a 1/2″ bow shackle or soft-shackle.
  • Safety Thimble II: This is the most commonly used Safety Thimble. Designed for 3/8″ to 7/16″ synthetic ropes used on most Jeeps and off-road vehicle winches. Designed for use with a 3/4″ bow shackle or soft-shackle.

NOTE: Winch Safety Thimbles are designed to be used with soft shackles or steel shackles for rigging.  Hooks can not be used.
